EMDR & how it can help you
"An internationally recognised, powerful, and life-changing therapy".
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a safe, evidence-based psychotherapy used to treat trauma and a wide range of mental health challenges. Recognised globally for its effectiveness, EMDR offers a more rapid, tolerable, and lasting healing process than many traditional talking therapies.
What is EMDR?
EMDR helps people recover from emotional distress caused by traumatic or disturbing life experiences. When painful memories aren’t fully processed, they can remain "stuck," triggering present-day emotions and negative beliefs that affect how you feel about yourself and how you experience the world. This can lead to difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, or feeling overwhelmed.
By reprocessing these memories with EMDR, the brain can store them in a more adaptive way, alongside appropriate emotions, reducing their impact and allowing for healthier responses in the future.
How EMDR Works
-
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) while you recall traumatic memories.
-
This mimics the brain’s natural processing during REM sleep, helping to reduce emotional intensity.
-
The goal isn’t to erase memories but to change how they are stored, so they no longer cause distress or interfere with your wellbeing.
Benefits of EMDR
-
Reduced symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and depression
-
Improved ability to manage emotions and memories
-
Increased sense of safety, stability, and control
-
Enhanced self-esteem, self-compassion, and resilience.
